Glazier, window fitter or carpenter? The right glass carrier makes the difference between working safely and efficiently or… taking unnecessary risks with fragile loads.

In this buying guide, we explain which additional options are available and which model best suits your needs. At mobietec, the range consists of two models: the external and the internal glass rack. We explain what each model includes, which additional options are available and of course why you should choose mobietec.

What is a glass rack and who is it for?

A glass rack, also known as a glass carrier or glazing rack, is a professional solution for safely transporting glass panes, windows or panels. At mobietec, we offer two types: the external glass rack, mounted on the outside of the van, and the internal glass rack, placed inside the vehicle.

A glass rack is essential for anyone who regularly transports glass, windows or sheet materials with a van. Typical users include:

  • Glaziers: for the daily transport of glass panes and glazing in varying formats.
  • Window fitters: for the safe transport of windows, frames and window profiles.
  • Joiners: for glass panels, doors and window constructions.
  • Window and door companies: installers who fit both windows and doors and regularly transport large loads.

The choice between an external and internal glass rack depends on your way of working and what you transport on a daily basis. We explain the difference below.

1.) The external glass rack

An external glass rack or glazing rack is designed to be placed on the outside of your vehicle. You can transport glass, windows, sheet materials and more on it, without using the interior space of the van or needing a trailer. Every mobietec external glass rack is supplied with the legally required equipment, as required in the country where the product is delivered.

Advantages of an external glass rack:

  • Saves the interior loading space of your van.
  • More practical and ergonomic than a trailer.
  • Suitable for daily intensive professional use.

Additional options for the external glass rack:

  • An integrated step: safely access the roof of the vehicle without needing an extra ladder on the rear door. This saves space, weight and an additional purchase.
  • Extra fixing poles: 2 flixing poles are included as standard (which is sufficient). Do you want extra security for larger or heavier loads? Additional fixing poles are available.
  • Extra horizontal pieces: a number of horizontal sections are already integrated as standard in the glass rack. Do you need extra rigidity or a different layout for your load? Additional sections can be added as required.

Mounting options

An external glass rack can be mounted in two ways:

  • Drilling through the side of the vehicle: for a solid and permanent attachment.
  • Mounting without drilling, directly onto a mobietec roof rack or load carriers: this makes (dis)assembly considerably easier.

⚠️ Important during every installation: make sure all mounting points are easily accessible.

2.) The internal glass rack

An internal glass rack is mounted inside the van. The basic frame is delivered as standard and the load is secured using lashing straps. This allows you to safely transport glass, windows and panels.

Advantages of an internal glass rack:

  • Total protection against rain, frost and other weather conditions.
  • Load not visible from the outside, so less vulnerable to theft.
  • Supports are foldable, giving you extra floor space when the rack is not in use.

Additional options for the internal glass rack:

  • Upper and lower supports and clamping bars: for extra rigidity and a customised layout of the load as required.

Why choose a mobietec glass rack?

We produce glass racks from anodised aluminium combined with stainless steel. This choice offers several advantages:

  • Light weight, high load capacity: less impact on the roof load of your van, without compromising on strength.
  • Corrosion resistant: no rust, even after years of intensive use and in all weather conditions.
  • Long lifespan: the glass rack retains its appearance and functionality throughout its full lifecycle.
  • Custom work possible: do you have a specific format or a particular mounting requirement? We think along with you.

Our glass racks have been thoroughly tested and certified according to EN12642 and EN12195. These standards check the strength and stability of the racks, so you can count on maximum reliability and safety.

We work exclusively B2B through an extensive network of authorised dealers and converters. Our glass racks are available for a wide range of makes and models.

A glass rack always includes the legal equipment necessary according to the country where the product is delivered. Our external glass carriers are standard delivered with two fixing poles to fix your material with. For an internal glass rack, we start from a basic frame. From there, supports, attachments for fixing poles and fixing poles sticks can be added. You always have the option of ordering additional fixing poles.

In most commercial vehicles, the inside of the roof must be easily accessible to mount the mobietec product efficiently. Please feel free to contact us and we will see if your commercial vehicle qualifies.

It is not always possible to mount a glass carrier on every vehicle. The possibility depends on the height of the vehicle. In many small vans, for example, it is not possible to install a glass carrier. Find out if your vehicle qualifies for a glass carrier using our easy-to-use product finder.

Your product's serial number is easily located on a sticker affixed to the product. The exact location of the sticker varies from product to product. For both the external and internal glass carrier, the sticker can be found at the bottom.

The serial number is essential for a smooth and efficient service request. This sticker allows our team to quickly identify the type of roof rack and the vehicle connected to it. On this sticker you will find important information, such as:

  • Product number - with this number you can find this glass carrier on our customer portal.
  • Weight of the product.
  • Certifications of the product.
  • And the maximum load capacity.

When you submit a service request, it is very important to have the serial number handy so we can help you as quickly as possible and provide the right support. Please keep this sticker securely and make sure it remains visible so that you can be assisted quickly in future requests.
