Electric vans are finding their way onto European roads and the range of models available keeps growing. Not every tradesperson who chooses an electric van will need accessories. But for those who do, mobietec has a full range ready. In this article, we take a closer look at three electric models for which we offer accessories, and explain why aluminium is a particularly well-suited material for electric vans.

Why aluminium products make sense for electric vans

With an (electric) van, every kilo on the roof has a direct impact on the range. The heavier the load, the more energy the van consumes per kilometre and the shorter the distance it can travel on a single battery charge. Choosing lightweight accessories is therefore not only a practical choice, but also a sensible one.

At mobietec, all of the accessories are made from anodised aluminium. Aluminium is generally 30 to 50% lighter than steel, yet just as strong and durable. Less weight on the roof means less impact on the range. A small but significant advantage for anyone who uses their electric van professionally and on a daily basis. Aluminium is also 100% recyclable, that's why it fits perfectly with the more sustainable direction that electric vans represent.

Whether it's a laptop, smartphone or the plane you travel on, aluminum has sufficiently proven its strength and benefits. This light and strong metal is not prone to corrosion, it is durable and non-toxic. We choose anodized aluminum because of these three reasons:

  • Low weight: Steel is strong, but it is also heavy. Anodized aluminum with stainless steel is just as strong, but at the same time is low in weight (about 30-50% lighter). The payload of the vehicle can thus be optimized. Little carrying capacity of the vehicle is lost to the roof rack itself.
  • Anti-rust: Aluminum roof racks not only look beautiful, they also stay beautiful. They are not electrostatic and thus do not attract dirt or dust. Also, gaps or flakes never occur where dirt can accumulate. Anodized aluminum is resistant to rain, snow, ice and wind and does not rust. This is in contrast to steel, which does rust over time.
  • Environmentally friendly: Thanks to its low weight and aerodynamic design, it reduces fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions. Anodized aluminum has a very long life and is 100% recyclable. The same applies to black anodized aluminum. Painted or steel roof racks are not recyclable.
